We had to get a new septic system last year (new state rules---county is actively enforcing). We have a filter between the septic tank and leach field. Seems to work fine (the filter is actually in the septic tank, but is plumbed so that the leachate can't leave the tank w/o going through the filter. The idea is that it will keep the leach field from getting clogged/plugged up.
