Ours will stay until they break down, usually in the 8 year range as they just get too big and get a bad leg by that age or a bad attitude.

We couldn't afford any $8K bulls but $3K-$4K isn't out of question. I think the highest I paid late last year was around $4500, avg. of all we bought is probably $3800. It was a lot closer to $3K just a few years ago but with salvage values up and calf prices up it isn't that big of a jump really. We dilute 1 bull for 30-40 head so we get a lot of bang for the buck.

I'll also add not sure what breed you have to pay that much for but we can get top of the sale Herefords for the above prices, as well as Red Angus. Every now and then I see one go for the $6K+ price and half the time I am not interested due to EPD's or frame or attitude.
