As mentioned above, one of the reasons Herefords can outwinter fairly well (they do like a windbreak) is their heavy winter coats and thick hides. But another advantage of the breed is that they shed their heavy coats in the spring and slick up nicely so they can also take some summer heat. Here is a picture of one of the same cows pictured in my original Dec 18 pictures above as she looked on July 31 of this past summer. Note the extreme difference between winter and summer coats. edit: not hiding anything here with this coat!
