Nebraska | Right there is the trade off. If a guy knew he could get $1000/calf next fall, then it is a no brainer to keep 'em. But 2nd calf heifers also generally bring the most of any heifer/cows in the barn. The heifers will start calving around March 10th. Had them preg-checked, poured and a shot of scourbos. I seen some first calf heifers sell for 1425-1450 a week or so ago. If I knew I could get in that 1450 dollar range, it would be an easier decision. Then a guy could buy some 1st calf heifers back or even steers for grass. ...Decisions. | |
