Driftless SW Wisconsin
Interesting numbers and all sorts of different ways to look at them. I hope to get as many calves as possible out of each cow once I get the average size more in line with my 1200 lb goal so I am not really worried about the salvage value. My main problem right now is winter hay. Mine all go for freezer beef so the inverted calf selling price structure which often ends up paying the same dollars for a lighter calf as a heavier one is of no concern. Good luck. Jim at Dawn Edit: I'm using 1200 lb as sort of a generic term for a "moderate" size cow. With thes three gone my largest cow is now about 1600 lb. I am gradualLy working down. As I get into the 1400 lb range though I will have to be more open to the fact there is much more to a good beef cow than just her weight. We need to avoid single criteria culling. Jmho
