Fairbury, NE (Southeast) | Here the bigger calves are in demand and bring good prices as they can go directly to the feedlot with no backgrounding. Been this way for a long time.
Ex. 700 lb. calf @ 1.10 =770
500 lb calf @ 1.25 = 625
Take that times 5 years and you can see the advantage of a good cow with maybe a bit bigger frame.
I used to think the 1200lb cow was the holy grail. Thinking 1300 is a more realistic size. | |
