Chilliwack, British Columbia | The parlour stalls are made by Daritech, based in Lynden, Washington. They have branded it WestWaard. Works really slick.
In BC, we are currently paying $38500 for one Kg of butterfat, per day. Our production is currently 1.3Kg/butterfat/cow/day, works out to about $50000/cow.
Not sure on the exact number today, but we get about $18/kgBF shipped. You don't make money on quota you buy today, but for 10 or so years down the road. We are just trying to fill our barn, have room to milk 115 with the dry cows in the building. It is expensive, but EVENTUALLY pays for itself. The problem, no one is selling, only buying.
We don't have to ship that exact amount everyday, but are allowed to go 5 days over, and 15 days under. I can explain more if you want, but that is the jist of it. Gives us some flexibility so don't always have to be exact.
Clear as mud, right?
