Subject: Re: Offer rules

NE IOWA/ SE SD
Our local coop recently had to modify their "offer" program because of a string of offers getting picked up in August on offers that were forgot about, and on bushels that had since been sold. Offers with them are only good for 30 days now.

The main reason I dislike and do not use an offer program is because if you want $4 cash corn you may not get picked up until basis is -50 or -60 cents which exactly the basis level at which one should be selling the board and waiting for basis to narrow (I should say our normal basis runs -20 to -30). Capturing a narrow basis is another part of an ideal marketing strategy, and can add a lot to a bottom line as long as one is patient and can handle a few margin calls in a strong bull market. However, I do understand some do not want to worry about following markets and following basis levels.
