NC Iowa | I think it's pretty sad, I was showing 4-H steers just 10 years ago and a lot has changed just in our small county.
My favorite show was the Mower county, MN open show. Load the cattle up right out of the pen and unload them into the chute. That was it, later that day come and watch as your cattle come in and get judged. I was told if they were washed and clean they would not be allowed in the show, they wanted natural production animals.
Took one of my steers there after the county fair and ended up taking 4th live and 2nd in the carcass contest. Made more money there then the "real" show, was a lot less work and way more fun.
