If you dig outside, consider filling entire trench with pea gravel. We did that on a foundation/addition (not basement) per contractor insistence. Best thing I ever did. Tile is down at foundation, and pea gravel up to yard line. NEVER any water around the new room/garage. It just goes away. Prob quite an expense if backfilling entire basement trench.
