"The Agronomist mentioned is Dr. Louis Thompson.   He became world noted after testifying (in 1972) to the US Congress that we had not had a major drought since 1956 and should expect one in 1974.   It did happen as he expected and he was from then on known as the world's authority on cyclic weather and drought in the US.   Dr. Thompson retired about 20 years back and died during the past year (still of sound mind but not body) in Ames, IA."
