It is interesting to see the diversity of farming and attitudes around the world. I just got back from Ireland where the average farm size is about 50 acres. Grain farmers tend to be bigger but lots of livestock and dairy farmers smaller. We visited dairy, grain, beef and potato farms. Then you go to the extreme where in some parts of South America areas less than 10,000 acres is a "small" farm. Farming 30 miles away from home would be "close" for some farming areas of the world and two or three towns away for others. If you get the opportunity, travel abroad every chance you get (or even outside your own state/county if you don't travel much). It is a big world out there. What is done in our own small little world and we consider optimum can be very short sighted when our vision is limited to our own experiences. John
