I would think it might be blackleg as well. I had a yearling calf years ago that went down with a soar leg in the feedlot. In about three days the leg was rotting off and the hide was crunchy. I had no idea what it was but the vet came out and told me it was blackleg. He said the hide will feel "crunchy" if its blackleg.
