se montana | I enjoyed hearing you explain word for word the reason I put up my hay with dry stems and wet leaves. I learned this method from one of my neighbors, who does all his baling at night. The result is nice green hay with leaves still on (we are 75% alfalfa up here). The other dozen neighbors I watch hay do their baling during the day, and end up with brown stems and very little leaf in the bale. They think I'm nuts, but I feed all my hay with a hydrabed, and it has to be done right to unroll properly and spread properly.
