se montana | If you have hayed in the past without the tester, don't even turn it on. It drives me crazy. I generally let my winrows dry all the way through to the ground and then come in and bale on a dew when the leaves are tough and the stems are dry. Moisture testers will tell you not to do this, and then your hay is way too dry when the dew goes off.
Big problem up here this year was complete lack of dew. lots of overdry hay put up.
