| I've never taken the Pipestone course, but we bought their handbook, which is the next best thing. I figure we can run at least 5 ewes to 1 cow. We never let our lambs out on grass however. Some years back the U of Minnesota did a study and came up with sheep being the best money in farming. The one warning I want to give is, sheep are the best money in farming, not the easiest money in farming. Not a lot of physical labor, but it takes time and it takes disciple to do what needs to be done when it needs to be done. Sheep don't raise themselves, and the only real money is selling fat lambs. 80 lb lambs don't pay the bills. The money is in 130 lb lambs. Seriously, the best large scale sheep operations are run by women. My wife is heavily involved, and it shows. Women seem to get a grasp of the small stuff better. Not trying to scare anyone off, just being realistic on what it takes.
