Ted, it sounds like a new battery is called for.  I had a T20 and now have a T23 and 2 hours of use per charge is what I average(d) with both.  I love these Thinkpads and bought both refurbished through

I think that the T30 is going for around $415 (refurb).

My only complaint about the Thinkpad is that there is no "windows" key on the keyboard.  On the plus side is the mouse that can be used without taking your hands off the keyboard
