Thanks for explanation. I'll keep my eyes open for the SATA types.

But, I still think my desktop kicks out MORE heat than my externals. There's other heat generating sources in the desktop (& laptops) but the ext HD has only itself. My desktop is warm if NOTHING is going on...my externals are stone cold since power supply isn't even contained there.

Still, I appreciate your input & I realize there's a lot to learn here.
