We background calves and buy them around 300-400#. I really don't think you want to be starting them on green grass. The first couple weeks are very important dealing with stress and you want a lot of dry matter intake. If you had some bales of grass hay that is the best for new calves. Get them going on hay for a couple weeks and then you can get them out on some grass. You can start them on some grain once you make sure they are good and healthy.
