Subject: RE: Go with a Red Poll, or Black Saler

New Mexico
there's a decent population of Red Polls in Indiana....pretty darn good cattle.

They certainly have the phenotypic traits that you like.

On phenotype, a shot of Tarentaise makes better baldy cows too.
Say 1/2 Tarentaise 1/4 Herfy, 1/4 Angus cow. ( or any 1/4 to 1/2 combination of the afore 3 breeds...so that is a good long term 3 way cross that makes BWF cows perpetually ).
There's a few producers of Red or Black Tarentaise bulls out there too.

Also, I like Red Shortorn bulls, South Devon, strait Devon ( strait Devons are super for grass based programs ).

If staying Black....go with a Black Saler ( ALOT of em out there....they're more moderate than the black simmys ).

Keep in mind most of the Red Saler now carry the black gene too.

On Red Angus....make sure they're dna tested free of ALL defects.
( the Osteopetrosis list is LONG on em ).

No matter what You use, the White Face will tend to carry in Your herd.
