Driftless SW Wisconsin | As I recall the target spot for cattle is between the cartilage ribs about half way out along the ear. I think it is important you not hit the ribs. I tried doing this right after the calves were born and you do feel like you are taking your life in your hands with some very protective cows or calves that raise a ruckus. I have backed off and said I will do it when it can be done right at first workup thru the chute in May. jmho. Jim at Dawn
