Lander, WY
As others have said, not a lot of big climbs, but LOTS of boondocking. I would recommend staying in Laramie or Centennial, give me some time and I can think of the name of the place there in town... Snowy Mountain is closed, so no gas on the mountain this year. Albany is way south, but not bad, just avoid Libby Flats if windy!!! We stayed at one of the Albany Cabins one year, just up the trail from the lodge, nice and decent price. Mountain Meadows Cabins are good, but again, no gas, and there has been problems with stuff disappearing from vehicles in the Green Rock parking area.

Let me know if you head out, may be able to head up for a day. I've never been up Widowmaker but guys I ride with have. I guess I've lost that desire, would rather be in the deep snow dodging trees. :-)

I drive to Fargo every year, I would recommend dropping south at Murdo through North Platte to I80 and taking it across rather than down through Wyoming. I've done the Wyoming route going to Rapid City, and I would think it would add at least an hour over the North Platte route, but don't know for sure. Keenesburg Colorado to Hillsboro North Dakota takes us right at 12.5-13 hours.
