Subject: RE: Do you live on your farm?

Macon, IL
Just 30 years ago everyone around here did. There are probably 1/2 the houses there used to be, and a good chunk of those are just rentals now.

I have been blessed enough to be able to live on the farm, but we had to build. My parents still live on Grandpa's farm.

Can't really expect it when so many of the farms are rented by guys that farm 50 miles in every direction. Back then there were a lot of guys farming 300 acres, and the large operation had maybe 2000 acres. Now when some are farming 30,000+ if you figure that displaced 100 operations. Kind of expected.

Other thing is 1/2 the poeple around here used to have either cattle or hogs. Now if you take out those just running a few to show or for their own consumption there are only a very very few left.

Time marches on I guess.
