Absolutely the best and cheapest way to get what your looking for - buy two they are so cheap!

Put one in a protected area with the generator (or just plug it in while setting it), then put another one inside the house and you have instant peace of mind to keep a "eye" on whats happening outside.

Will read amps, killowatts, voltage, hertz, and give a tally of KW used since plugging something in.

I have one and have used it at times just to keep a eye on the power company here as we ended up having a issue on their end with a bad connection on the transformer (voltage would drop down in the evening as the jumper wires would expand / contract and loose partial connection.)
