Actually, it does pay well, indeed.   .... and she loves the profession, too. 

She works in the evenings for a company that does video relay interpreting via the internet.  She translates voice conversations to deaf people on camera, and vice-versa.  She makes $36 an hour doing that, and time and a half on holidays.

Better'n farming, most of the time.

She learned in college how to do it and has been doing it for about 25 years now.  I have thought about doing it myself, but she says one interpreter in the house is enough....you have to be very patient to put up with people that she does, and don't know that I could put up with what she does, every day.
