Subject: Re: New two-stage furnace questions

Southeast Minnesota

I put a two stage in my house three years ago. When you have moderate temps it will only run on the low stage. The furnace will run longer and thus you shouldn't have as wide of temp variation. There is a timer on the control board and if it can't reach called temp in a certain amt. of time it switches to high fire to fulfill the heat call. Mine probably runs in low fire 95% of the time. I can also manually get high fire by raising the thermostat temp 10 degrees and then lowering it to the temp I want. ( Like if I come home from work early) Low Stage is also more effecient and that is where you get savings from but you have the high stage for 20 degrees below and strong NW winds. The variable speed fan is VERY nice.

If you can afford it, go with the new furnace. I would also consider putting in a humidifier at the same time.
