Subject: New two-stage furnace questions

West Central Wisconsin
Our 18 year old LP furnace is in need of service for shutting down. Service man mentioned rebates and tax credits on new two-stage furnaces reducing purchase price about 40-50%. If our furnace fails pressure test it's a done deal. If it passes I'm not sure. Salesman says everyone who put in new two-stage are most impressed with the comfort level. Can anyone comment on this and what about fuel savings? We have big temp. spikes in this old house, something the two stage helps with. We would be eligible for a $1500 Fed tax credit, which will end this year, and up to another $3-400 in utilities and state rebates. So would you spend $4000 now and get half back, start saving fuel and be more comfortable? Or, fix the less efficient one we have and run it who knows how long, lose out on rebates, and pay more for a new furnace down the road? Thanks for any input, Joe.
