| I'm setting up a network that will have perhaps a couple of hundred devices before we are done. I'm already having a little trouble with the small consumer routers (edit: having to reboot the router occasionally) with about 30-40 devices installed so far, and 8-10 hops (or whatever they are called now).
When done, I will have:
Multiple IP cameras
Multiple computers
Multiple printers/scanners
VoIP-multiple phones on a Avaya system
DSL coming in from a point different from where the server operates.
Multiple long range wireless hops.
2003 (some flavor) server.
A VPN to/from a city out of state.
I have issues dealing with computer salesmen (I wish experience had proven that what they recommend is what is in my best interest instead of their best interest), plus I'd rather do this is-house so we can provide our own support. I've always believed I'd need a better router at some point, how do you suggest finding one that will work well without over-spending? Would a switch do the job sufficently?
