Subject: RE: JD 1760 population issues

Northwest Iowa
The longer the chain the slower the gear can make a revolution, slowing down the plates. This chain I'm talking about is the direct chain to spin the entire planter on a 1760. If you look at it the sprockets are the same top and bottom and the sprocket from the cluster sprockets above off the tire. Meaning if it's shorter it'll spin the hex shafts and meters faster. And if it's to long making is slower it will slow down the entire unit. I know it sounds odd, but it's the only other adjustment you can really make on the chains to change population, but it is also supposed to be in working order and not stretched, which may be leading to the ops problem of low population at a set gear. It worked for me I suggest looking at it.
