Sioux County, NWIA | If your suction head is around 18’ vertical, you are on the thin edge of it never priming. There is a limit to the vertical suction head and if my memory serves it is around 20’.
Used to prime a Pacer gasoline powered centrifugal water pump at something like a 5 or 6 foot suction head and often, in addition to adding priming water, I had to manually hold the throttle wide open to generate enough suction to draw the water into the pump. Lot of time it took several minutes of high speed running to get it pumping.
