If we have never lost a close loved one like our spouse or our child we don’t know if our feelings of grief are normal when we do have a close loss. We really don’t know how we should feel, we have never been there before. Going to a group session allows us to compare our feelings with the feelings of others who are in the same boat as us. After we listen to other people’s story of grief we suddenly realize our feelings are normal and we feel a sense of relief, a little bit of that heaviness is off our shoulders. One thing that surprised me is men break down and weep as easy or easier than women when they are sharing their loss with the group. I would highly recommend attending at least one session. You might be surprised how much better you feel when you leave.
