My wife is a postal clerk in a one employee post office. About a year ago she had 150-200 checks show up from an area co-op. This co-op was the result of merger upon merger upon merger. The checks were stock refunds or returned patronage from one of the original co-ops. Half or more were different addresses, many were deceased. It was a mess. The post master would have returned to sender. Not my wife ! She asked around, worked with the village clerk and managed to find most of the recipients or a descendant. People still can’t believe a postal worker would go above and beyond to do what she did.
