Cherokee County, Northwest Iowa
I was told when growing up that the original house on the farm was blown away due to a tornado (guess I never heard or thought to ask what year - I would guess 1900-1920's?). The house was rebuilt, with brick this time. Good thing, too, because in 1959 my father watched out the kitchen window, while I slept upstairs as a 6 year old, half the out buildings on the farm destroyed by another tornado.

Our farm sits in what I always considered a bit of a small valley, which heads southwest towards Kingsley, kinda following the West Branch of the Little Sioux River. Seems like we have gotten more than our fair share of big winds that come howling up from the SW over the years- 2 years of greensnapped corn over a three year period in the mid 1990's.
