I think it is freeze since it is in the lower part of the field which generally has heavier soil.


I tend to agree.. it does appear worse in the lower areas.  This field was planted earlier than mine and has a good stand.  The agronomist report that.. "it's too soon to know for sure.. and damage can express itself more severely later.. but freeze damage (other than these pictures..??) "appears to be light.. so far."  The greater concern is the "lack of moisture."

Ill admit that my ulterior motive is to have it rain as a response to "whining on Social media."

"The community is concerned" that much is certain.. but yes there is time for moisture to help out and recover.. but we're in a dangerous pattern of missing forecasted rains.

Freeze damage can show up at harvest.. bad when not expected as well as with moisture.. light as the plants can recover with tillers.

East of us the crop is doing better. 

Apologies to the neighbor but this was/is becoming common with each passing day.
