My land needs some ag lime applied. Been checking prices.

Basically, the cost is about 10-15% for the lime itself, 80% is just for the friggin' transport of the stuff!

Putting 2.5 tons/A on 130 acres came to over $13,000. Most of went to hauling the stuff.

I find it hard to understand why. I mean--lime is a pretty common material. Unlike other minerals, which require much processing, you just dig it out and grind it up. And it's ready to use!

It seems like anything that involves semi-truck transport is really expensive these days.
Recently had about 15,000 bushels of corn hauled by a local trucker. Went about 30 miles to the grain mill. It cost almost $4,000!

Should I be checking for better trucking prices?

It seems as though you should buy a couple trucks and get in on that gravy !!
