I’ve seen the dig around it and treat with creosote or something like it before backfilling with gravel I think they used. That was in town though. I think we have enough severe weather that the REA coop just operates on the system that the weather will find the weak ones that needed replacing anyway! Unless it’s around a house or shop etc. I’ve seen them preemptively change poles out in that situation.
About 20 years ago the main lines were all upgraded to aluminum from the copper/steel that was put in in the 40’s when they built the lines the first time. It’s amazing stuff compared to the strength of the old wires. I’ve seen it holding up a tree that would have snapped all the old wires.
