Nothing against your crop insurance agent, I am also a crop insurance agent. They are doing their job which is selling insurance. From an overly simplified analysis, they can sell double the premium per acre on the same acres and essentially double their, the insurance agents, income per acre with minimal extra work. No chasing down new customers, minimal extra paperwork, no extra customer appointments….

I know the % of subsidized amount of the insurance is different so it’s not a true doubling but if a farmer is spending $60 an acre vs $30….

Not saying it’s a bad product but think about where your information comes from. “My crop insurance agent contacted me”. They are a salesman, insurance is the same as any other input and needs to be looked at in same way. Would you spend 30 bucks an acre of fofo juice that will not increase your yield but has a say 40% chance of some payback?

Crop insurance agents are way overpaid for the amount of time invested per $1 of commission earned.
