Malta, Illinois | Yes there was a lot of rain in places but a lot of areas along the Mississippi are still apparently quite dry. Looking at the drought monitor it is pretty shocking to see how dry the majority of Iowa and the Dakotas are. We were very dry last fall coming into winter but a warm December with some nice rains helped alleviate things. We have received close to 4” in the last month that has all pretty much soaked in. There is more rain in the 8 to 14 day forecast. If that comes to fruition I think we will have more subsoil moisture going into spring than we have had in three or four years. It’s a big old country though and there are extremes both ways. | |
