No personal experience, but I was following a guy on Youtube who went through all the proper procedures to get his side-by-side registered for highway use in New York state. It required DOT tires and some lighting upgrades, but now he can operate it on the roads in the same way as any other vehicle. I'm sure other states are different on that though.
