Subject: RE: asphalt parking lot

central - east central Minnesota -

vickruse - 3/11/2024 15:02 How thick for a church parking lot?

As pointed out - it's all in how solid and thick the base is. If the base is solid and structurally sound, you could get by with 2 inches. 2 inches of asphalt will support pretty good weight loads. The asphalt paving's that get side loads (scrubbing of tandem axle garbage trucks, or plow trucks or heavy semi delivery - well, then you need 3.5 inch's or 4 inches. The type of asphalt mix also makes a difference. Need to spec something very similar to the MnDOT 2360 SPNWB230B type mix. Without a spec, you could literally get black colored sand/rock. If your base is not structurally sound, it needs to be brought up to a structural standard to support the traffic in the spring and wet periods . . . .
