Wanna get a few sheep for the kids. Mostly for fun but also to show at the county fair (show feeder pigs each summer already along with cows) and lamb out a few to sell or eat. I know nothing of sheep. We’re a cash crop farm/ cow calf operation my whole life so I know livestock and have the facilities and feed and all that but I don’t know anything about sheep in general. I don’t wanna sheer. I see some ads on Facebook for some ewes that were ram exposed for $275. Is that fair? Are rams a real pain? If I get 4/5 ewes would it be worth getting a ram? Gimme your thoughts.

Find someone sorta local to you for mentoring (important even with a livestock background - - - sheep are similar but still different to cattle).
Buy some from a reputable breeder - - - its not just to make money but so you don't bring home problems that would make things even more challenging!
If you want to make a buck at it you will need some kind of lambing facilities - - - doesn't need to be fancy though (think garage package - - - works until the girls chew the **** out of it).
Expect some hiccups - - - there is always a learning curve.
Would suggest you get yourself a livestock guard dog at the same time as getting some sheep (that's another learning curve!!!).
Sheep can be fun or frustrating all up to you.
(You can NOT starve in a profit!!)
