I occasionally keep a good bull calf for my own use. Turn out an early May born calf the following mid July so they are around 14 months. Has worked well. He has to be a special bull calf out of a good bull and one of my best cows.
So this bull you keep back is breeding some of his half sisters?, I have had the same thought but always kind of nervous about keeping something related to that much of the herd.
