Subject: Rye vs. Triticale Baleage

SW Iowa
I have seen the discussion of Rye vs Triticale forage for cattle come up a lot with many people suggesting switching to triticale. I was curious about why people might say this and if this would be beneficial to us this next year. We currently drill Northern Rye in the fall, bale, and wrap it in the spring; then feed it to our calving cows the following winter. We like this system and do not have the need or means to go to chopping or mixing so would just like to see if the triticale would add any benefits operationally or nutritionally and also if it would cause any extra problems such as pushing off planting, shorter time to get cut just right, or less nutritional value.
