Subject: RE: In-ground Storm / tornado shelters

lake Michigan shore line/Mason county
I have been thinking about digging a spot out next to the house and using a short storage container. Lay some rail road ties down, then cover with silo pit plastic. Use a back hoe to gently cover with fill. I would allow the doors to stick out facing east like a walk out basement. Storm shelter/root cellar. Vented of course. My thought was that I have been told them china moving boxes are water tight. So slap a good thick coat of paint one, then cover with plastic .It should never rust through. My south farm is high and very light soil. Anyone ever try this??
