You probably won’t have a problem with the calf. I have had problems with the older calf being too aggressive with a fresh bag. Cow gets sore, then kicks calf. Lately I have fed the calf from the bottle some, for first week, to get cow used to the calf nursing. Has been mostly successful.

You might be able to put calf on new cow once, then shut both cows with calf, see what happens. Just make sure he is getting some milk from new cow.
