Subject: Annual Forage Crop planted ahead of CRP

I have 17 acres of land that I will be putting into CRP sometime this year. It is highly arodable land that has alot of sand on parts of it. We are putting it into crp because it yields very poorly for corn and beans. I have three options.

1. Crop it one more year (was supposed to be corn in rotation) and plant into CRP Oct. 1st. Timing might be bad getting corn off and it would be a big hassle to plant beans as we have no beans near this field this year in our rotation.

2. Try to get an earlier plant date approved to plant crp June-July

3. Plant an annual forage that I could bale DRY for my beef cows or to sell. I have no experience with this but was thinking Sudan grass or similar.

We are in South Eastern Wi and any thought on any of this would be appreciated.

Joe
