Greed and bureaucracy will be the end all to the western way of life eventually. I learned along time ago not to get comfortable with it if you don't own it. Dad was the largest operator in our area in part of the 80's and 90's. From this I also learned nice guys (dad probably like Mr. Phillips) finish last most of the time. I bought our homeplace from the banker at the end of his era... Land stewards are becoming more rare as traditional grazing areas succumb to recreational property. While I do not condone the monetary destruction or loss of life associated with wild fires I do champion their cleansing of the prairies. I commend Mr. Phillips for their techniques per the article but unfortunately in the big picture of business it contributed to their current demise.
