Interesting article. A lot of this outfit are busy on socials and if noticed many were leaving. Now I see why. Its seemed like they had a niche operation.
Most of the article focuses on the chico basin ranch and the play between a whole long term lease versus a shorter partial lease is a discussion in itself.
The part that actually bothers me the most is the mention of the Zapata and the Nature conservancy pivoting their management. The NC has been busy paying top dollar for ranches here and then leasing out to grazing operation (5-10 year leases). Their funding is all grants and have really been one of the big drivers of land values on these grazing type ranches. Makes me wonder what they will do with a lot of them in the future. |
