Subject: RE: Bottle Calves on Farm - Biosecurity Risk

Western Ontario
It’s not a bad idea it’s a €#£¥ing terrible idea. I have a neighbor that 20 years ago brought a bottle calf from his Father in laws very well managed and vaccinated dairy farm to put on a cow he had that lost her calf on his very well managed and vaccinated beef cow herd….he lost 22 calves to scours and had something like 50 hooked up to IV at the vet clinic out of 120 calves…..if you can stand losing 4 or 5 feeders and maybe a dozen baby calves on your cows than fill your boots…..there will be guys along to tell you they do it all the time and have never had any problems but ask yourself just how much you could potentially “profit” from these stupid bottle calves versus what you might lose….sorry to be a dick but that’s how strongly I feel about it and would hate to see somebody go through what my neighbor did….it almost broke him in a couple different ways.
