Subject: Bottle Calves on Farm - Biosecurity Risk

Have never had bottle calves before but have recently been wanting to try a few and I have the opportunity. They will be coming directly from the dairy farm and then inside a barn at my place.

These calves will have their own barn, but 50’ away I’ve got a barn full of feeders and a pasture with cows. The different calves will never have direct contact, but being a rookie with bottle calves and newer to cattle altogether I don’t want to regret trying this.

With direct from farm bottle calves is there a risk I bring disease onto the farm with the bottle calves and risk the health of all my other cattle? I will be working with my vet to vaccinate as soon as I get the calves, but just want some advice on this.

Wondering whether or not this a bad idea for the health of all cattle I already have? Does keeping them seperate mitigate risk?

Thanks in advance.
